Situation
Employees who were new to the company or their roles were not getting up to speed quickly enough, costing valuable productivity and threatening employee retention. One division decided to remedy the problem with a comprehensive onboarding process to support employees and managers as they adjusted to their new situations and relationships.
Solution
Schechter Consulting created an end-to-end onboarding program for employees and managers. Employees receive welcome toolkits before they start their jobs to familiarize them with the company and reinforce their decisions to join. Once on site, they receive toolkits to help them adjust during the first 90 days on the job. Manager toolkits lay out the steps for making employees feel welcome, helping them get acclimated, setting performance goals and establishing expectations for the first 30, 60 and 90 days and year.
Results
New employees become productive more quickly, turnover is down and feedback from employees and managers is excellent. The program was so well received, it has been replicated in multiple divisions and is considered best-in-class in the organization.
